Synthesising neo-folk, industrial sonics & power balladry through exploratory modes of aural collage & narrative songwriting, i.e. crazy harks to the avant-garde provocations of Laurie Anderson, Aotearoa post-punk & the melancholic sehnsucht of 1980s pop music.

Pairing a sonic palette of 1980s cassette squeal & radio static with emotional urgency, i.e. crazy’s recently released album Country Justice has been described as a standout local release highlight of 2023 "... digging up discomforting truths about our shared local identity with the unflinching eye of a surgeon / historian across ten emotionally searing tracks" (Under the Radar). Country Justice flips the script on the murder ballad, sifting through the complexities of gendered violence &, in a self-reflexive turn, its renderings in contemporary and archival media.

i.e. crazy is the brainchild of Tāmaki Makaurau-based interdisciplinary artist Frances Libeau, who works at the intersection of sonic composition, text & performance across fields of music, fine art, film & theatre.

Support comes from Cello_xo (aka Charlotte Forrester), a musician and writer who makes music alongside their siblings in the band Womb, & also features on the i.e. crazy track The Gloam.

A front-on portrait style photo of i.e. crazy in front of a red curtain background. A red rubber glove reaches out and strokes the side of their face. They are wearing a cream coloured corset and are looking upwards off into the distance, the photo has a dreamy surreal vibe about it.
