Body

Four Islands, Infinite Interpretations.

New Music Islands explores how we can forge connections across vast geographies while also doing our own thing, here, in our own way. The evening will be presented in two halves. The first 45 minutes feature a New Music Islands programme showcasing selected works from the Faroe Islands, Aotearoa New Zealand, the Canary Islands and Gotland. The second half celebrates the richness and diversity of contemporary music in New Zealand with a selection of works by New Zealand composers.

The programme centres on four works that embrace openness through flexible instrumentation and deliberately broad performance instructions. Each ensemble is invited to make the music their own, resulting in unique interpretations as the programme travels between the four island communities.

Featuring performances by Tristan Carter, Jonny Marks, Erika Grant, Naoto Segawa and Rebecca Steel, with music by Jesse Austin-Stewart, Ruby Solly, Elliot Vaughan, Ciro Hernández, Lasse Thornin, Weston Olencki, Michelle Scullion, Jessie Leov, Garling Wu and Chris Cree Brown

Each concert will be a singular experience, with this being the Aotearoa New Zealand presentation. - New Music Islands is an international collaboration between four member societies of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM): the Faroe Islands Section, VICC (ISCM Gotland Section), COSIMITE (ISCM Affiliated Associate Member representing the Canary Islands) and CANZ (ISCM New Zealand Section).
